Doing Islam in Amercia on This Day:
July – November, 2025!
Support Zohran Mamdani for Mayor of the
Great City of New York
Dr. Syed Pasha, Professor Emeritus
Muharram 1, 1447
All the time I have been in America, I have seen Muslims running from pillar to post, wondering what Islam they should do. In this month of July, almost ending now, and from now till November 4, I have a concrete suggestion for them.
Support the New York City Mayoral campaign of Zohran Mamdani. Using every Lawful and Peaceful means and method available to them.
Lawful, because that is what Muslims are supposed to be: Law-Abiding people, no matter where they are.
Peaceful, because that is what Islam itself is supposed to be: a message of peace, mercy, compassion, caring and service.
To everyone, everywhere!
So, right now, supporting Mamdani and campaigning for him is the right thing to do. It is the American thing, and the patriotic thing to do.
And what is more, it is the Islamic thing to do.
Zohran is a bright star on America’s political horizon. He comes as a breath of fresh air. And he blazons a trail of hope and optimism at a time when a pessimism and disappointment appear to make the heart of the American People heavy.
Mamdani’s candor is breathtaking and his courage monumental. And his energy and determination are nothing short of inspiring. He is a campaigner the like of whom has rarely been seen in the past several decades.
Over the past several decades, I do not know of anyone who walked the length of Manhattan personally asking for people’s vote.
He is a Muslim? Well, good for him.
So what if he is a Muslim? Since when are Muslims supposed to be second-class citizens or a banned species in America? But to his credit, and as a salute to New York’s great heart and spirit and history, Mr. Mamdani, in a very nonchalant and casual way introduces himself as one, as a Muslim I mean.
And Zohran is an immigrant: a naturalized citizen. Even more good for him. Or should I say better for him?
An immigrant, a naturalized citizen, in the city of New York? Isn’t everyone though? More or less? Just when and how did the Irish come to New York? And the Italians? And practically everyone else?
No glove fits a hand more snugly than Mr. Mamdani’s citizenship credentials fit the great city of New York.
As for his socialist label for himself and his professed policy agenda for New York, well, don’t you think it is time our politicians learned the language of truth and spoke it openly and fearlessly? Even if it took a Zohran Come Lately political pipsqueak to teach us that lesson.
Mamdani wants affordability for the citizens of New York? Is that a sin?
He lacks experience, of course, true for the large part. But what he has done with his meager experience and limited exposure to politics is nothing less than astounding.
It is so remarkable in fact that if you had not seen the Mamdani Campaign in person, with your own eyes, and heard it secondhand from someone else, you will have a hard time believing it.
So, Muslims of America! And the Great Citizens of New York! Take this Gift Horse from God and run away with it. Don’t spend all your time and energy trying to pry open his mouth and count his teeth.
Don’t fritter away this God-given opportunity. Or should I speak good old New Yorkese to you and say: New York, America, Muslims, Don’t Blow It!
Don’t sit around and watch Zohran Mamdani fall a victim to false propaganda of every kind and description.
Pull yourself up. For once, cleanse your hearts and minds of all greed, lust, hate and prejudice and line up behind Zohran’s Campaign for a greater New York.
And for a better America.
Cuomo is a great name. Not too many of us have forgotten the sage, Mario. But Andrew Cuomo
is the echo from the past. Some of it good, and some not so very good.
But Zohran is the new dawn with its first crack of the horizon. It seems to hold every promise of
a whole day’s worth of brilliant sunshine behind it. And of many more bright days to come.
This, therefore, is a call to action for all Americans. And for all New Yorkers. And not the least to the Muslim citizens and green card holders in America. Do not, I repeat, do not miss out on this God-given opportunity to Do the Right Thing.
To do the American Thing. To do the Patriotic Thing.
And, believe it or not, to do the Islamic Thing. For, Islam means doing the Right Thing, no matter what the time, place or circumstance.
Islam says, there are three levels of engagement in the never-ending struggle to do good things in
this world and prevent and discourage bad things from happening:
a) Use all lawful, peaceful and practical means at your disposal. Do it with your hand, says the Hadith Sharif.
b) Use all means and methods of communication and persuasion you can find. Do it with your tongue, says Hadith Sharif.
c) Agonize in your heart and mind about what to do and how do it. Do it with your heart, says Hadith Sharif. The Hadith also warns that if you don’t do even this much, then there isn’t even a shred of Faith or Iman left in your heart.
Zohran Mamdani may have his faults and limitations. And I can name a few myself.
But anyone with eyes to see, and anyone who is not totally blinded by one kind of prejudice or
hate – political, personal, religious, racial, ethnic or otherwise – can easily understand, Mr. Mamdani is nothing less than God’s Gift to the Human Race at this critical juncture in America’s life.
