Jum'ah Khutbah:
A Collective Responsibility of All Muslims

Dr. Pasha

(Bringing Islam to the World One Concept at a Time!
Taking the Qur'an to Every Home and Heart that Needs It --
And which One Does Not?)

It is sad to see what has happened to Jum'ah Khutbah in so many American Mosques and Communities today.

And all through the world.

For all practical purposes, Muslims of America and the world have rendered the Jum'ah Khutbah ineffective and lifeless. It seems Muslims have killed the Jum'ah Khutbah.

Allah gave the Jum'ah Khutbah to this Ummat as a most powerful educational, motivational and organizational tool, every moment and aspect of it packed with the most and the greatest of blessings in every conceivable way.

There is no better or more effective instrument for reviving and regenerating a dying and demoralized Muslim Ummah, and to bring peace, joy and God Almighty's Blessings to a sadomasochistic world bent on self-torture and self-annihilation.

And most Muslim Communities throughout the free land of America, which God gave them as a gift, and as an opportunity to rebuild themselves, and at the same time to provide guidance to a world that so desperately needs it, seem to have totally abandoned their mission when it comes to the Jum'ah Khutbah

And to invite and help humanity to come to Allah and to save itself from the Fire of Hell.

Most American Muslim Communities, and others, seem to have reduced the blessed and powerful educational and motivational opportunity of the Jum'ah Khutbah into an empty space, into some kind of a meaningless ritual, without purpose and without direction.

The fact is that we all bear individual and collective responsibility to make Jum'ah Khutbah what it is supposed to be: a most effective open university on the planet to educate, motivate, organize and rebuild a dilapidated Muslim Nation and to provide guidance and direction to a demoralized world hurtling toward self-destruction.

If Muslims fail to do this, I mean if Muslims fail to put their Jum'ah Khutbah house in order, I fear we may be held individually and collectively accountable before Allah.

And that means we may render ourselves liable to be punished by Allah, subjecting ourselves to Allah's Adhab that is.

As happened during the horrible events of the so-called 9-11, and the even more horrible cascade of events that engulfed most of humanity around the world, and in particular the Muslim nations and societies of the world, in the aftermath of those terrible events.

That is how dangerous and deadly a game it could be: Playing with Jum'ah Khutbah.

After all, it is not for nothing that Allah himself outlines the Jum'ah Salah and the Jum'ah Khutbah in the Qur'an. And he names an entire Surah in the Qur'an by the blessed name of Jum'ah.

And it is not for nothing that Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam, himself personally delivered the Jum'ah Khutbah every Friday all 10 years of his life at Madinah.

And it is not for nothing that every one of the four Khulafa' Rashideen -- Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali, Radiyallahu Anhum -- also delivered the Jum'ah Khutbah personally every week.

So, Muslims of America! It is time to get your Jum'ah Khutbah organized in the best possible way that you can, by making it the best educational instrument and occasion that it was designed to be by God and gifted to the Muslim Ummat as a potent mechanism of their survival and regeneration.

Beyond all considerations of time, space and circumstance.

And this goal of reviving the Jum'ah Khutbah can only be done by choosing the most educated, the most enlightened and the most articulate members of your community to give the Jum'ah Khutbah at all your mosques, week after week, every week.

Muslims of America -- and the world -- have no higher or more urgent priority or purpose than that.
