Bleeding Hearts and Mealy Mouths

Calling all bleeding hearts and mealy mouths everywhere!

And calling all my good friends in the Liars-Liars-Pants-on-Fires community!

And calling all shameless media mercenaries with all kinds of propaganda to peddle and grandmothers to sell!

And an SOS to that Faustian conscience of humanity, the pseudo-academics and do-gooders, male as well as female, in search of a morsel or extra buck or quid or pat on the back at the expense of Afghan womanhood!

Never letting us forget for one moment how terrible the shoeless, hungry and hounded Afghan society is the way it persecutes and oppresses its women without allowing them to have a fancy college education – or any education for that matter.

While their hearts bleed and their mouths run and their computers pound away at the way Muslim women are brutally oppressed everywhere in the Muslim world, there seems to be one place they are either too ignorant to visit or too fearful to touch: Turkey.

Turkey is Muslim, everyone knows that. Turkey has women aplenty, most people would guess that. And Turkish women are barred by law from attending university.

They have been for the longest time. And they are even today, as of the time of this writing – New Year’s Eve 2011.

That is because they carry a target on their head – these Muslim women of Turkey I mean – the shameful mark of their difference.

It is what people call a Muslim Headscarf.

I don’t know what a Muslim Headscarf is, but apparently it is a most terrible and dangerous thing. Never to be tolerated even for a second in civilized society by peaceful people.

Evidently these Muslim Turkish women sport this shameful rag right on their head and right in public and they wouldn’t take it off even in the sacred portals of a modern and free Western-style university.

And, believe it or not, the Turkish Establishment, ever eager to guard the rights of women on the one hand and the sanctity and freedom of university education on the other hand, refuses to allow them entry into university campuses and classrooms to pursue their higher education wearing that disgusting rag on their heads.

That badge of female subjugation!

Now, I am not for or against this Muslim Headscarf thing one way or the other. I simply couldn’t care less as they say.

It was my mother, a woman, who taught me what to wear, not the other way around. So, I learned my lesson early in life: I do not presume to lecture my mother or her gender what to wear or not to wear where.

My issue is a simple one:

Just where, O Where, are the sundry mealy mouths and bleeding hearts in universities and other places, and where are all those media mercenaries, when we need them?

Where are they when the oppressed and persecuted Muslim Womanhood in Turkey needs them?

Or am I the only one who never hears a squeak from any of them?

Should I worry about my hearing?
