Our Profile in the Qur'an

Dr. Pasha

(Bringing Islam to the World One Concept at a Time!
Taking the Qur'an to Every Home and Heart that Needs It --
And which One Does Not?)

People need to pay serious and careful attention to the Qur'an.

And when I say "People," I mean both Muslims and non-Muslims. For, the Qur'an came to talk to both Muslims and non-Muslims.

That is why they both -- Muslims as well as non-Muslims -- need to ponder each Aayat of the Qur'an most carefully.

That means also, as they read each Aayat of the Qur'an, both Muslims and non-Muslims need to ask clearly and pointedly, where precisely does each one of them stand in relation to that particular Aayat

That is, in what specific ways does this particular Aayat apply or does not apply to them.

For, the Qur'an was sent down by God Almighty not only to talk to us, but also to talk about us: both Muslims and non-Muslims.

The Qur'an, thus, came down to tell us about us. To hold a mirror to our face, as it were.

As a result, the Qur'an talks about us -- Muslims as well as non-Muslims, and it holds a mirror to our face, even as it tells us about God and his creation and provides us insights about this world and the next world.

For, the Qur'an is not only for us, and addressed to us, it is also about us.

Along with all that the Qur'an is, it is also -- how is it possible that this information and this realization will not leave every one of us reeling? -- our own story as told by our Maker: by the author of the story himself.

As a result, the Qur'an contains detailed profiles of us, both as groups and individuals, for both Muslims as well as non-Muslims.

The Qur'an makes this quite clear in its own words. At the same time, the Qur'an also admonishes us for our failure to comprehend this:

Laqad Anzalnaa Ilaikum Kitaaban Feehi Dhikrukum.

A-Falaa Ta'aqiloon?

Paraphrase:

"Surely, we sent down a book to you that talks about you, and in which you are mentioned.

Don't you understand?"

The fact that all this was being said on this earth fourteen hundred years ago, and with such clarity and force, and that too in the barren desert of Arabia where there were no books and no writers, is nothing short of jaw-dropping.

No greater proof or evidence is needed to show that this Qur'an could not have a human origin, no matter how you look at it.

And that this miracle of a book could only have come from God.
