Alhamdulillah. What else can I say?
Thank you for the opportunity to give Jumu’ah khutbah in your masjid again.
I have no words other than to say: Allah bless you!
I am no “ahl” for giving khutbahs.
That means I am in no way really qualified to give khutbahs.
But I do have things to say that I believe must be said and must be shared.
And I believe Jumu’ah khutbah is the foundation of our life in this world — individual and
collective.
For societies and for individuals alike.
It is like what the hadith says the human heart is:
Idhaa saluhat, saluhal jasadu kulluhu,
Wa idhaa, fasdat, fasadal jasadu kulluhu.
Meaning:
The human heart:
If it works well, the whole body works well.
And if goes bad, and does not work well, the whole human body goes bad and does not work
well!
The Jumu’ah khutbah is like that.
That means if, in a given society, the Jumu’ah khutbah works well, as it should, then that society
as a whole will work well. Such a society will grow better and stronger.
But if in a given society, the Jumu’ah khutbah does not work well, and has turned into a
meaningless ritual, then that entire society is not likely to work very well.
This is true also in situations where the Jumu’ah khutbah is delivered in a language that people do not understand, in a language that is not the language of the people among whom the khutbah is delivered.
Or situations when the Jumu’ah khutbah is handed over to friends and relatives — “nepotism” is
the name for that kind of thing in English Language — when there are more qualified individuals in the congregation who can do it, and do a better job of it.
Allah bless you for giving me this opportunity once again.
Please pray to Allah to help and guide me to make a good job of it.
Wassalam,
