What Are Mountains For?

Taking the Qur'an to Every Home and Heart that Needs It --
And which One Does Not?)

People say life is tough. And it surely may be.

People say they are facing all kinds of odds. And those odds are mountainous.

I am not saying no. I am not saying they are not.

But here is what I want to say, and this is what I want to ask everyone: What are mountains for?

To climb, right? So, hop to it.

Hop on, around or over the first rock you meet – and keep going.

Don't look back till you have hit to top.

May God make life easy for you!

For, he says he does – and he has.

And how can his promise be wrong?

Hear what God says in the Qur'an:

Fa-inna ma’al 'usri yusraa, he says.

Inna ma’al 'usri yusraa, he repeats.

Surely, he says.

Absolutely and positively, he says.

Without a shade of doubt, he says.

“Surely, we have made life easy – beyond all the hardships that seem to meet the eye,” he says.

“Surely,” he repeats, “Things are indeed going to be easy – despite all the difficulties you seem to face right now.”

That is God Almighty's promise in the Qur'an.

That is his personal commitment.

And God always tells the truth.

And who is a better truth-teller than God?

Wa man asdaqwu minallahi qweelaa?

If not God, then who?

Iqbal, one of the most amazing of all poets, once put it most beautifully in that one of the most amazing of all languages, Urdu.

He said:

“You are an eagle; you belong in the mountains; go soar and play among the peaks!”

He said: Tu shaaheen haiy, basayraa kar pahaaron kee chataanon par!

So, go hop on that mountain.

Go, jump on them rocks – and keep on climbing.

Godspeed!
